Final Best Job in the World Blog

One Journey Ends - Another Begins!!

What an adventure it's been spending a week on the beautiful Islands of the Great Barrier Reef. We surely had the 'Best Job in the World' selecting the best candidate in the world.

Ben Southall is truly the best. In his opening speech as the new caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef he reinforced to us why we had chosen him. Humbled by his selection, he promised to care for and promote this special part of Queensland.

As our part of the journey is ending, Ben's is beginning a new chapter. We wish him every success.

Day 4

Wednesday 6 May, 2009

One of the busiest days experienced thus far throughout the selection process. All final interviews were conducted back to back for every candidate.

Following on from all of this the final announcement was made by Queensland Premier Anna Bligh. Click here to read more about the final selection

Day 3

Tuesday 5th May, 2009

Morning

The weather up here has now cleared and it would appear that a good afternoon is now arriving here on Daydream Island.

All candidates have this morning had their experience of luxury. From pedicures to facials, the candidates have been pampered and from all reports, absolutely loved it.  The media has been following every move made by the candidates and has some fantastic footage to sell Queensland both locally and overseas.

With the weather now clearing we are all looking forward to what exciting activities the afternoon holds.

Keep checking into this blog to find out more as the days go on, but at the moment it would appear that the Daydream Island staff have almost finished the preparation for our scrumptious lunch, so I best be off to savour it.

Afternoon

Having just returned to Hamilton Island it is time to reflect on such an enjoyable day on Daydream Island

The lunch provided by the Daydream staff was as delicious as it looked and put us all in good stead for the rest of the day.

The candidates had a terrific experience feeding fish, stingrays and sharks in front of a media throng that is growing more and more excited as the days wear on waiting to find out the eventual winner.

Due to the on and off rain the activity on Whitehaven was cancelled however the sailing here on Hamilton Island will be going ahead this afternoon.

Day 2

Monday 4th May, 2009

Day 2 kicked off with the personality questionnaires and after a few candidates quickly overcame some early nerves the process went along smoothly.

A big part of the day was made up of traveling via ferry over to Haymen Island for what was an incredible experience. Whilst the traveling was enjoyable for many, some of the candidates learnt the hard way, the benefits of taking travel sickness tablets.

Once the candidates managed to shake off the sickness it was onto the Reefworld Pontoon where the candidates were put through their scuba diving paces.

Via a 2 helicopter and 2 plane convoy the selection panel, TQ crew and candidates arrived at Hayman Island with a wonderful food experience awaiting them. The dishes were representative of the various candidates countries, with mini hamburgers, Singapore noodles etc.

This long, but wonderful day, was completed with a fast ferry transfer back to Hamilton Island.

Day 1

Sunday 3rd May, 2009

Here we are on beautiful Hamilton Island - this place must be where the slogan "Queensland - beautiful one day, perfect the next" was born. We've done a quick re-con of the island, the assessment venues, and the Blue Pearl where the successful candidate will be staying. The whole place is buzzing with excitement.

Well now it's off to dinner by the beach....
